The Revenue LinesNarrow moat
Oracle (ORCL) — moat facet
Four of Oracle's five revenue lines grow slowly or shrink, and the fifth, AI infrastructure, now drives almost all the growth.
Oracle reports its revenue in five lines. In fiscal 2026 total revenue of $67,357 million1 came from software, licences plus support, $24,541 million; cloud infrastructure $18,101 million; cloud applications $15,888 million; services $5,743 million; and hardware $3,084 million2. The chart in this app shows the five bands for fiscal 2024 to 2026, and they reconcile exactly to reported revenue.
The presentation is new. Oracle's fiscal 2026 report moved licence support out of the old cloud-and-support category into a new software line3, so figures before fiscal 2024 are not directly comparable, and each leaf gives its older history on the definitions used at the time.
The lines are moving in opposite directions. Cloud infrastructure grew about 77% in fiscal 2026 and 121% in the first quarter of fiscal 202745; cloud applications about 11% and 10%67; software fell about 0.7% and 3%89. Oracle says cloud infrastructure contributed 84% of the growth in cloud revenue in fiscal 202610.
Profit is reported by segment, not by line. The cloud and software segment, which holds three of the five lines, earned about 58.9% in fiscal 2026; hardware about 65.4%; services about 26.7%11. The segment margin measures only direct costs12.
The mix has already changed. Cloud was 48% of revenue in the first quarter of fiscal 2026 and 60% a year later13. Software, the annuity, fell from 38% to 29% in the same period14.
The quarters show how quickly the weight moved. Total revenue was $14,926 million, $16,058 million, $17,190 million and $19,184 million through fiscal 202615, and cloud infrastructure's contribution rose from $3,347 million to $5,787 million over the same four quarters16. Hardware and services barely changed, at between $670 million and $924 million and between $1,349 million and $1,523 million a quarter17. Almost every dollar of added quarterly revenue came from one line.
Each line reaches the customer differently. Software is a licence and an annual support fee; cloud applications a multi-year subscription; cloud infrastructure a mix of pay-as-you-go consumption and very large reserved-capacity contracts; hardware an equipment sale; services a consulting project. Oracle's segment reporting groups the first three together as cloud and software, which earned $34,468 million on $58,530 million of revenue in fiscal 202618.
The lines describe a company turning from a software landlord into a builder of computing capacity. Cloud infrastructure's share of revenue, about 38% in the latest quarter19, is the gauge; as it rises, Oracle's results will depend more on a few large customers and less on the licences and support contracts that made it.
Cloud infrastructure now 38% of revenue; software 29%.
The whole company; growth that depends ever more on one line raises concentration as it rises.
