OCI: 121% Growth in a QuarterThin moat
Oracle (ORCL) — moat facet
Oracle's infrastructure cloud grew 121% in a quarter and met every target it set, but what protects it is contracts, not a product rivals cannot copy.
Oracle Cloud Infrastructure is growing faster than any other line Oracle reports. Revenue was $6,840 million in fiscal 2024, $10,234 million in fiscal 2025 and $18,101 million in fiscal 20261, about 2.6 times in two years2. In the first quarter of fiscal 2027 it was $7,388 million, up 121%3.
The growth has accelerated every quarter. Year-on-year growth was 55%, 68%, 84% and 93% through fiscal 2026, and 121% in the latest quarter4. A single quarter of OCI now brings in more than all of fiscal 2024 did.
Oracle promised this and delivered it. In September 2025 it said OCI revenue would grow 77% to $18 billion in fiscal 20265; the result was $18,101 million6. Management's plan has it at $32 billion in fiscal 20277, and the first quarter at an annual rate of about $29.6 billion8 is close to that already.
Growth is not the same as a moat. Most of this revenue comes from renting computing capacity for artificial intelligence to a small number of very large customers, which the Major Clients page examines. What protects it is the contracts, not the product: remaining performance obligations were $664 billion at the end of August 20269.
The quarterly revenue shows how steep the curve is. Cloud infrastructure revenue was $3,347 million, $4,079 million, $4,888 million and $5,787 million through fiscal 202610, adding roughly $700 million to $900 million each quarter, and then $7,388 million in the first quarter of fiscal 202711, a jump of about $1.6 billion12. Oracle guides cloud revenue growth of 65% to 71% for the second quarter13.
The scale is real and the moat is thin. The number that would show it thickening is the cloud and software segment margin, 54.5% in the latest quarter14; if it stabilises as OCI grows, Oracle has found a way to rent computing at a durable profit.
Growth accelerated five quarters running to 121%.
The growth engine; a slowdown well below the plan of $32bn for fiscal 2027 would mean capacity or customers are not arriving.
