The Growth Drivers It Built ItselfNarrow moat

Amgen (AMGN) — moat facet

Four drugs Amgen built itself sold $8.2 billion in 2025, up about 37%, and they now carry most of the company's growth.

Amgen's own laboratories still produce drugs that grow quickly, and they now carry the company. The chief executive said six key growth drivers grew 26% year over year in the second quarter of 2026, generating nearly 70% of product sales1. The release does not name the six, but the fastest-growing large products are clear: Repatha up 37%, EVENITY up 38%, TEZSPIRE up 42% and BLINCYTO up 23%2.

Repatha, EVENITY, TEZSPIRE and BLINCYTO combined ($M)1,16220192,11920214,22320235,97320248,1532025Amgen results releases FY2020-FY2025; sums calculated
Seven times the 2019 level.

These are drugs Amgen discovered or co-developed. Repatha grew from $661 million in 2019 to $3,016 million in 202534; EVENITY from $189 million to $2,100 million; BLINCYTO from $312 million to $1,559 million56; TEZSPIRE from nothing to $1,478 million7. Together the four sold $8,153 million in 20258, about 22% of total revenues9.

That is the strongest part of Amgen's moat. Biologics are hard to make and harder to copy, and each of these drugs has years of patent protection left, with Repatha's method patents to 2032 and TEZSPIRE's to 203410.

Two things temper it. Several of the drugs are shared: EVENITY's profits are split equally with UCB, and AstraZeneca sells TEZSPIRE outside the United States11. And they grow partly by price cuts, with Repatha's net price expected to fall in 202612.

The growth is volume, not price. The second-quarter 2026 increases for Repatha, EVENITY and TEZSPIRE were each driven by volume growth13. Seventeen products are annualizing at more than $1 billion14, and the four on this page are among the largest. Their protection is long by the standards of Amgen's older drugs: Repatha's American method patents run to May 2032, EVENITY's treatment patent to April 2033 and TEZSPIRE's to February 203415.

This is the part of Amgen that is getting stronger. What would falsify that is the growth of the four drugs together: at about 37% in 202516 it is far ahead of the company, and a fall below 15% before the end of the decade would mean the home-grown engine is slowing before the next generation arrives.
