Industrial: A Fifth of Sales, QuietlyNarrow moat

Amphenol (APH) — moat facet

The industrial market has been between a fifth and a quarter of Amphenol's sales for six years, a steady base that the AI boom has made look smaller than it is.

If Amphenol has a steady base under the AI boom, it is the industrial market. Sales into it were about 20% of the total in 2019, 22% in 20201, 25% in each of 2021, 2022 and 20232, 24% in 20243 and 19% in 20254. In the June 2026 quarter it was 20%5. Nothing else Amphenol sells has held its weight so evenly.

Between 19% and 25% every year.

The market is many small markets. The 10-K lists end applications from agricultural equipment and marine to "alternative and traditional energy generation" and medical equipment6, which is exactly the shape the general-manager system is built for: thousands of engineers, each needing a slightly different part.

Its share fell in 2025 only because IT datacom grew faster. In dollars, industrial sales were about $4.4 billion in 20257, and in the June 2026 quarter they rose 56% in dollars and 18% organically8, the organic figure led by "instrumentation, factory automation, and electrification"9. Much of the rest was bought: the chief executive said the quarter benefited "once again from the addition of CommScope's building" connectivity products10.

What protects the franchise here is fragmentation rather than dominance. Industrial customers buy small quantities of many parts, and switching a qualified connector in a machine that must run for twenty years is rarely worth the saving.

In dollars the market has grown with the company. At 20% of sales in the June 2026 quarter it was worth about $1.75 billion in three months11, against about $4.4 billion for all of 202512. Industrial customers are served by all three segments, which is why no one segment report shows it whole. In dollars, industrial sales grew from about $2.7 billion in 2021 to about $4.4 billion in 202513.

The industrial share is the number that tells whether the base is still there. If it falls below 15% of sales while industrial organic growth is still positive, it will simply have been outgrown; if organic growth turns negative for two quarters, the base itself will be shrinking.
