Amphenol (APH) — moat facet

Amphenol names thirteen competitors, discloses no share and has about 4.6% of a $500 billion market; it wins socket by socket, not by dominance.

Amphenol competes everywhere and dominates nowhere, and it says so. The 10-K states: "The Company encounters competition in all areas of its business"1. It names thirteen: "Aptiv, Belden, Corning, Foxconn Interconnect Technology, Glenair, HUBER+SUHNER, ICT Luxshare, Jonhon, Molex, Rosenberger, Sensata, TE Connectivity and Yazaki, among others"2. It discloses no market share.

Market value of Amphenol and two named competitors, 28 Sep 2026 ($bn)Amphenol205.0Corning135.0TE Connectivity63.3stockanalysis market data, 28 September 2026; Amphenol Form 10-K FY2025 competitor list
Amphenol is worth more than the two named rivals shown combined.

The market is large and fragmented. Amphenol estimates, from industry analysts, that sales of interconnect, cable assembly, antenna, cable and sensor products were "approximately $500 billion in 2025"3. Its own $23,094.7 million4 was about 4.6% of that5. A supplier with under 5% of its market cannot set prices; it wins socket by socket.

The market values some of the named rivals far below Amphenol. On 28 September 2026 Corning was worth $135.01 billion and TE Connectivity $63.28 billion, against Amphenol's $205.02 billion6.

The four pages below describe four different relationships. TE Connectivity: The Peer Valued at a Third is the ordinary rival in the same trade. Jonhon and Luxshare: Rivals at Home in China is the rival protected by its own government's rules. The New Competitors of Various Sizes is the entrant the 10-K itself worries about. CommScope: The Seller Amphenol Bought From Twice is the rival that exits by selling.

The company describes the field as mixed: rivals "include large, diversified companies, some of which have comparable assets and financial resources, as well as medium- to small-sized companies that have smaller portfolios or specialize in one or more of our product lines"7. Against the specialists its breadth wins; against the large diversified rivals, it has to win on speed and service. It names global presence as its edge: "The Company believes that its global presence is an important competitive advantage"8. Most rivals are smaller or narrower. The field ranges from those two large companies to "medium- to small-sized companies"9, and Amphenol's 170,000 employees10 and more than 140 separate businesses11 are its answer to both.

The 10-K spells out what losing would look like: "There can be no assurance that the Company will be able to compete successfully against existing or new competition, and the inability to do so may result in price reductions, reduced margins, or loss of market share"12. For ten years the margin line, 19% to 21%13, showed that the fight was steady rather than lost. The company does not give the growth rate of the market it estimates, so share gains cannot be measured directly; only organic growth, 38% in 202514, stands in for them.

The position is narrow. Amphenol's advantage is its system, argued under The Moat, not a share of any market. If Amphenol's share of the market it estimates stops rising, organically as well as by acquisition, the system will no longer be winning sockets faster than the field.

Moat trajectory: Holding steady

No market share disclosed; 4.6% of the estimated market in 2025.

Whether the system wins sockets faster than the field; a flat share outside acquisitions would say it does not.

How it's calculated: Amphenol net sales divided by the company estimate of worldwide interconnect, cable assembly, antenna, cable and sensor sales in 2025 (about $500bn), Form 10-K FY2025.
