⚠ Wireless Service Revenue Guided FlatModerate threat
Verizon (VZ) — threat to the moat
Verizon guides its $84 billion wireless service revenue to be flat in 2026 and now leads with a broader measure that includes the fibre it bought.
The clearest statement about the franchise's growth comes from the company itself. In January 2026 Verizon said that wireless "service revenue growth will be approximately flat in 2026 as the company transitions to sustainable volume-based growth"1. The July update repeated it2.
The line is large enough that flat is a lot of money standing still. Wireless service revenue was $82,073 million in 2024 and $83,703 million in 20253, up 2.0%4. Flat in 2026 means the phones Verizon is adding are being paid for by lower revenue per account.
Guidance has moved to a different number. Verizon now leads with "mobility and broadband service revenue", guided to grow 2.5% to 3.0%5, which includes fixed wireless, Fios internet and the Frontier fibre business. On the recast basis it was $90,863 million in 202567. Part of its growth in 2026 is bought: Frontier.
The recast shows the new measure quarter by quarter: Consumer mobility and broadband service revenue was $18,801 million, $19,002 million, $19,096 million and $19,024 million across 20258. The fourth quarter was lower than the third, before Frontier's fibre was added in January 2026, which is why the 2026 growth rate flatters the underlying trend.
The switch is not hidden, and the new measure is a reasonable one for a company selling home broadband as well as phones. But it makes the core harder to watch. A decline in 2026, where the company promised flat, would say the volume strategy cost more price than management expected.
