The Revenue LinesNarrow moat
Dell Technologies (DELL) — moat facet
Dell now earns about as much from servers and networking as from business PCs, and the server line grew about eight times as fast in fiscal 2026.
Dell reports two segments, infrastructure (ISG) and client (CSG), and discloses revenue for four lines inside them. In fiscal 2026, of total net revenue of $113,538 million1: servers and networking sold $44,195 million, storage $16,631 million, commercial client $44,062 million and consumer client $6,922 million2.
A fifth band on the chart, corporate and other, is not a business Dell is building. It holds the results of divested businesses or those no longer actively sold, including VMware resale, Secureworks and Virtustream3, and its revenue fell from $5,624 million in fiscal 2024 to $1,728 million in fiscal 20264. It has no page of its own. For fiscal 2022 it is calculated as total revenue less the four lines, about $5,367 million5. With it, the bands reconcile to reported revenue for fiscal 2022 to 2026.
The lines are moving in very different directions. From fiscal 2022 to fiscal 2026 servers and networking rose about 147%, storage about 1%, commercial fell about 3% and consumer about 56%6. AI-optimized servers alone went from $1,873 million in fiscal 2024 to $24,683 million in fiscal 20267, about 22% of company revenue8.
Profit follows the infrastructure lines. ISG earned about 72% of segment operating income in fiscal 20269 and 81% in the second quarter of fiscal 202710. Dell does not disclose profit for the four lines themselves, only for the two segments.
A decade ago the mix ran the other way. In fiscal 2015 the client business sold $39,634 million and the infrastructure business $14,714 million11, so PCs brought in nearly three dollars for every dollar of data-centre hardware. In fiscal 2026 the infrastructure lines were the larger, $60,826 million against $50,984 million12, and in the second quarter of fiscal 2027 they were more than twice the client lines13.
The mix describes a company in transition, from PCs to AI infrastructure. The share of revenue from AI-optimized servers, about 22% in fiscal 202614, is the number that tracks it: guidance implies about 39% in fiscal 202715; if it gets there, Dell's results will move with the AI cycle more than with anything else it sells.
Servers and networking +63% in FY2026; consumer -8%.
How much of Dell moves with the AI cycle; guidance implies about 39% in FY2027.
