⚠ $200 Million of Supplier Credits Nobody RecordedLow threat
Dell Technologies (DELL) — threat to the moat
Dell had to revise its fiscal 2024 results after finding supplier credits its procurement staff had not recorded properly.
Dell's fiscal 2024 results were revised because some of its own people did not record money suppliers owed it. The fiscal 2025 10-K says Dell "discovered accumulated credits from certain suppliers that were not recorded or not recorded in the correct period"1, in its client business.
The correction moved fiscal 2024 operating income from $5,211 million to $5,411 million and diluted earnings per share from $4.36 to $4.602. It is small against Dell's revenue, but it sits in the segment where margin is thinnest and supplier terms matter most.
Supplier credits are a large part of how a PC maker earns its margin. A process that let credits go unrecorded raises the question of how reliable the segment's reported profitability has been.
The revision also moved net income. Fiscal 2024 net income attributable to Dell rose from $3,211 million to $3,388 million3. The later annual reports carry the revised figures, so every comparison with fiscal 2024 in this app uses them.
The measure of whether this was isolated is simple: no further revisions. Another restatement touching supplier terms would turn a one-off control failure into a pattern.
