Neuroscience: The Second Growth EngineNarrow moat
AbbVie (ABBV) — moat facet
AbbVie's neuroscience drugs, mostly bought with Allergan, sell $10.8 billion a year and are growing 20%.
AbbVie's neuroscience business has quietly become its second engine. It sold $10,767 million in 2025, up from $7,717 million in 20231, and $3,228 million in the second quarter of 2026, up 20.3%2. Management assumed about $12.5 billion for 20263.
The portfolio is broad. Vraylar, for schizophrenia and bipolar disorder, sold $3,621 million in 2025; Botox Therapeutic $3,769 million; the migraine drugs Ubrelvy and Qulipta $1,271 million and $1,036 million; and Vyalev, for Parkinson's disease, $482 million in its first full year of meaningful sales4.
Much of it came with Allergan: Vraylar, Botox and the migraine drugs were Allergan products. The acquisition that critics called overpriced delivered the business now growing fastest after immunology.
The risks are the usual ones for this collection: government prices for Vraylar from 2027 and Botox from 20285, and generic challenges to Ubrelvy and Qulipta already filed by several generic makers6.
The line's growth has been steady for years. Neuroscience sold $6,528 million in 2022, $7,717 million in 2023 and $8,999 million in 2024 before $10,767 million in 20257. Each of its main drugs grew in 2025: Vraylar, Botox Therapeutic, Ubrelvy, Qulipta and Vyalev8.
Neuroscience is a genuine second leg. Its growth rate is the figure to follow, 20.3% in the second quarter of 2026; holding above 10% through the Vraylar price cut in 2027 would say the business can grow through government pricing.
Grew 20.3% in Q2 2026.
The second engine; growth above 10% through Vraylar's 2027 government price would show it can grow through price cuts.
