No Backlog and No Customer That Matters AloneNarrow moat
AbbVie (ABBV) — moat facet
AbbVie has no backlog and no customer it could not lose, so its risk sits in two drugs, not in any buyer.
The usual checks for customer concentration give an unusual answer for AbbVie. The company states that it has no single customer that, if lost, would have a material adverse effect on its business, and that its order backlog is not material1. There is no remaining performance obligation to weigh and no dominant buyer.
That reflects how pharmaceuticals are sold. Demand comes from millions of prescriptions written by thousands of doctors, and wholesalers restock continuously rather than placing long-term orders.
The absence of a backlog means AbbVie's revenue is only as secure as its prescriptions. Nothing is contracted in advance: second-quarter 2026 revenue of $16,990 million2 was earned by prescriptions written in the quarter.
The real concentration is in products, not customers. Skyrizi and Rinvoq were about 42% of revenue in 20253.
Product concentration has risen as customer concentration stayed low. In 2024 Skyrizi, Humira and Rinvoq each exceeded 10% of revenue and together were about 47%4; in 2025 only Skyrizi and Rinvoq exceeded 10%, together about 42%5. The largest product, Skyrizi, alone was about 29% of 2025 revenue6.
For investors, the absence of a backlog also means there is nothing to measure demand in advance except prescriptions. AbbVie's quarterly results are reported within weeks of the quarter's end, and the trend in Skyrizi's and Rinvoq's weekly prescriptions is the closest thing to an order book the company has.
The relevant measure is therefore product concentration. As long as no customer matters alone, the question is whether any product does too much; the Skyrizi and Rinvoq share is the figure that answers it.
No customer or backlog concentration; product concentration rising.
Product concentration, the real one here; a rise toward 50% raises the 2033 exposure.
