Palantir Technologies (PLTR) — threat to the moat

Palantir's top twenty customers carry about 42% of its revenue, so a few renewals matter more than the long customer list suggests.

Palantir's filings describe its concentration plainly: "a limited number of customers account for a substantial portion of our revenue"1. The top three were 16% of revenue in 20252, and the top twenty averaged $93.9 million each3, about $1,878 million together, or 42% of revenue4.

Twenty customers carry about 42% of revenue.

Long tenure makes that concentration less dangerous, not harmless. A customer that has stayed ten years is likely to stay the eleventh, but it also knows exactly what it pays and what it would cost to replace the software. Large customers negotiate from strength at every renewal.

Most of the largest accounts are also public bodies whose budgets are set by legislatures, which adds a risk no amount of satisfaction removes. That exposure is argued on the Trusted by Governments page.

The concentration has kept rising in dollars. By June 2026 the top twenty averaged $124 million over twelve months5, about $2.5 billion together6. Each renewal among those twenty is now worth more than the whole of Palantir's revenue in 2018.

The practical test is the top-twenty share of revenue. At about 42% in 20257, a rise toward half would make Palantir more dependent on a handful of renewals, even while the headline top-three figure stays near 16%.
