✦ The Future BetsNarrow moat
Palantir Technologies (PLTR) — the future bets
Palantir is betting on American business, allied governments and a year of 82% growth, and it has $9.2 billion of cash with no plan announced for most of it.
Palantir's future rests on four bets, and the company has quantified most of them. The largest is American commercial revenue, guided to exceed $3.424 billion in 2026, growth of at least 134%1. The second is allied governments seeking what Alex Karp calls sovereignty: "Demand for AI sovereignty has now been unleashed."2
The third is the year itself. Palantir raised its 2026 revenue guidance to between $8.150 billion and $8.158 billion, 82% growth3, from $7.182 billion to $7.198 billion in February4. The fourth is what it does with $9.2 billion of cash and short-term Treasuries and no debt5, now that its share repurchase programme has ended6.
The bets are connected. American commercial growth pays for the international push and fills the cash pile; the cash gives Palantir the freedom to fund free pilots in markets where they have not yet worked.
What they share is dependence on the bootcamp method continuing to convert. Revenue grew 93% in the second quarter of 2026 to $1,935.5 million7; every bet assumes that pace fades slowly rather than quickly.
The profit side of the guide is as ambitious as the revenue side. For the third quarter alone Palantir expects adjusted income from operations of $1,292 million to $1,296 million8, a margin near 60% of the guided revenue. The bets are being made by a company that expects to keep most of what it earns.
Revenue growth in the third quarter is the first test: guidance of $2,160 million to $2,164 million9 implies about 12% growth from the second quarter10. A result at or above the top of that range keeps the bets alive; a miss would mark the first quarter in which the future started arriving more slowly than promised.
2026 guidance raised twice; revenue +93% in Q2 2026.
The pace every bet depends on; a sharp deceleration would bring the future forward.
