Spares and Service Across the FleetWide moat

Lam Research (LRCX) — moat facet

Every Lam chamber in a fab wears out parts, and the spares and service it needs made the June 2026 quarter the third record in a row.

The installed base pays Lam a second time through parts and service. The customer support business group offers "customer service, spares, upgrades, and new and refurbished non-leading edge products"1, and its spares product line runs cost optimisation programmes and focuses on product life extension2.

Customer support-related revenue, June quarters ($M)1,733.8Q4 FY20252,472.4Q4 FY2026Lam Research Q4 FY2026 results release
Up 43% in a year.

The line is growing fast. Customer support-related revenue reached a record $2,472.4 million in the June 2026 quarter3. Management said it was the "third consecutive quarter of record revenue", up 17% sequentially and 43% higher than a year earlier4.

For fiscal 2026 the 10-K put most of the line's $1.40 billion increase down to "revenue from spares and non-leading-edge equipment"5. Spares are bought because chambers wear, which means they are driven by how hard the fabs are running rather than by whether they are expanding.

Management also said, "We've been growing the CSBG business faster than the installed base"6, which suggests more revenue per chamber over time. Lam does not publish either the installed base or revenue per chamber, so the claim cannot be checked directly.

The four quarters of fiscal 2026 rose in sequence: $1,776.6 million, $1,987.3 million, $2,110.9 million and $2,472.4 million78910. Growth of 39% from the first quarter to the last11 is fast for parts and service alone, and the 10-K credits "spares and non-leading-edge equipment" for most of the year's increase12.

What can be checked is the quarterly customer support figure. A decline while fab utilisation is high would say third-party parts suppliers or customers' own maintenance are taking the work.

Parts and service from the installed base; a fall while fabs run hard would mean others are taking the work.
