Wealth at Work: $930 MillionThin moat

Citigroup (C) — moat facet

Citi sells mortgages and savings to the staff of its corporate clients, and the channel is still small.

Wealth at Work provides financial services to professional industries, including law firms, consulting groups and accounting and asset management firms1, and it is the smallest part of Wealth. It earned $930 million in 20252 and $227 million in the second quarter of 2026, up 3% on a year earlier but down 8% on the first quarter3.

Down on the previous quarter.

The idea is distribution. A bank that already serves a firm can offer its partners and staff mortgages, deposits and investments through that relationship, which is cheaper than finding the same clients one by one.

The revenue so far is mostly banking. Citi put the latest quarter's growth down to higher deposit spreads and average balances, primarily offset by lower mortgage spreads4. At about 8% of Wealth revenue5, the line is still too small to change the segment.

On the old basis the line earned $862 million in 2023 and $876 million in 20246, so 2025's $930 million was its best year of the three.

The line grew and then stalled. Revenue was $691 million in 2021 and $930 million in 20257, about 35% more8. But it peaked at $268 million in the first quarter of 2025 and was $227 million in the fourth quarter9, the same as the second quarter of 202610.

The first quarter of 2026 was below the year before: $246 million against $268 million1112, about 8% lower13. Citi's Investor Day plans an "Expansion of coverage across Wealth"14, which would reach professional firms through more bankers rather than better pricing.

The line has gone flat before. Revenue was $862 million in 2023 and $876 million in 202415, less than 2% growth in a year when rates were at their peak.

The quarterly fall from $246 million to $227 million16 is the thing to follow. Revenue below $900 million in 2026 would mean the channel had not yet found its scale.

Moat trajectory: Holding steady

Revenue $930M (2025); Q2 2026 $227M, down 8% on Q1.
