⚠ The Numbers That Leave the FilingsLow threat
Home Depot (HD) — threat to the moat
As SRS and GMS grow, Home Depot's traditional metrics describe a shrinking share of the company.
Sales per square foot is not the only measure that now describes less of Home Depot. The 10-K says customer transactions and average ticket do not include results from HD Supply or SRS, including GMS1. Online sales exclude HD Supply and SRS too2.
As long as the distributors were small that did not matter. The Other segment, SRS and GMS, sold $12,717 million in fiscal 20253, 7.7% of net sales4, and grew 62% in the second quarter of fiscal 20265. HD Supply sits inside Primary and has no figures of its own6.
The effect is that the metrics investors used for decades now cover a shrinking share of revenue, while the new businesses are reported as one line with operating income but no traffic, branch productivity or organic growth.
The online figure is another measure that describes only part of the company. Online sales consist of sales generated through websites and mobile applications and do not include results from HD Supply or SRS7. As the distributors grow, the share of Home Depot covered by the metrics investors have used for twenty years shrinks with them.
The sign to watch is disclosure itself. If the Other segment passes a tenth of sales without Home Depot publishing its organic growth, investors will be judging the fastest-growing part of the company on a single margin figure.
