✦ Fiscal 2027: Another Strong Growth YearNarrow moat
Applied Materials (AMAT) — the future bets
Applied has promised another strong year in 2027 after a year it expects to grow about 21%.
Applied has told investors what it expects after 2026, in words rather than figures: "we expect another strong growth year for Applied Materials in 2027"1. It gives guidance only one quarter ahead.
The arithmetic of the current year sets the bar. With nine-month revenue of $24,037 million2 and a fourth-quarter guide of $10,250 million3, fiscal 2026 would be about $34,287 million, up about 20.9%4. The fourth-quarter guide alone is about 50.7% above a year earlier5.
Analysts are optimistic: 39 of them rate the shares a strong buy with an average target of $640.896, against a price of $474.257.
A growth year after a 20% year would put Applied's revenue in fiscal 2027 well above anything it has recorded. It would also be the third year of a boom in equipment spending, and booms in this industry end.
The shares already price some of it. The forward P/E was 26.958, against a trailing 40.99, which assumes earnings rise by about half10. Applied will next report on 12 November 202611, when the first-quarter guidance for fiscal 2027 will show whether the strong year begins strongly.
The risk to the promise is the base. Fiscal 2026's fourth quarter is guided at about 50.7% above a year earlier12, so fiscal 2027 growth will be measured against a quarter that may prove to be the peak. Applied's own history shows how quickly that can happen: revenue fell 12.6% in fiscal 2019 after a record 201813.
The statement will be tested in November 2026, when Applied reports its fourth quarter. Guidance for the first quarter of fiscal 2027 below the fourth quarter's revenue would be the first sign that the strong year starts slowly.
FY2026 implied +20.9%; 2027 growth expected.
The base 2027 must grow from; a Q1 FY2027 guide below Q4's revenue would mean a slow start.
