⚠ China: A Record Quarter of RevenueHigh threat
Analog Devices (ADI) — threat to the moat
China took a record 25.9% of ADI's revenue in fiscal 2025, up 34% in a year, as tariffs, export rules and state-backed rivals all grew.
The largest single exposure in ADI's revenue is one it can do least about. China was $2,858.3 million of fiscal 2025 revenue1, 25.9% of the total2, the highest share in any year from fiscal 2017 to 2025. It was 17.1% in fiscal 2017, 24.1% in 2020, 18.1% in 2023 and 22.6% in 20243.
The rise came while every other risk to that revenue grew. The company's forward-looking statements name "recently announced and future tariffs and other trade restrictions; changes in export classifications"4. Its risk factors warn that "our distributors could be adversely impacted by additional tariffs or export controls"5, and that state-backed rivals are expanding, discussed on The State-Funded Newcomers.
The figure is also uncertain in a specific way. ADI reports revenue by where the buyer is billed, and warns that this "may differ from the geographic location of the end customers particularly in cases where a third-party contract manufacturer purchases the Company’s products through distributors"6. Some Chinese revenue is parts that end up in products sold elsewhere; some revenue billed elsewhere ends up in China.
Why is the share rising? The 10-K does not say. What can be seen is that China grew 34.3% in fiscal 20257 against 16.9% for the company as a whole8, recovering faster from the downturn than the United States, which grew 14.0%9.
The other regions have not recovered the same way. Against fiscal 2023, revenue billed to Japan was down 29.1% in fiscal 2025 and to Europe down 23.9%, while China was up 28.2%10, on figures of $989.9 million, $2,285.6 million and $2,858.3 million11. China and the rest of Asia are the only regions above their fiscal 2023 levels12. Some of that may be contract manufacturers in China buying for customers elsewhere, as the company's own caveat allows13; but the country that recovered fastest is also the one where the trade and competitive risks are greatest.
A quarter of revenue from one country is a concentration ADI's end-customer table does not show. If the share passes 30% in any year, or if Chinese revenue falls by more than 20% in a year when the rest of the company grows, the exposure will have become the story.
How much revenue sits under one government; above 30% would make it the company's largest single risk.
