Where the Profit Actually Comes FromThin moat
XTB (XTB) — moat facet
Volume correlates 0,25 with revenue and margin per contract correlates 0,92; almost everyone watches the wrong one.
XTB publishes, every quarter, the two components of its own revenue: the volume of contracts its clients traded and the profit it made on each one. Multiplying them reproduces the top line. Watching them separately explains the company.
Across the eight quarters from the third of 2024 to the second of 2026, volume in lots ranged from 1,63 million to 2,54 million, a factor of 1,6.1 Profitability per lot ranged from 152 złoty to 484, a factor of 3,2.2 Operating income ranged from 376 million złoty to 1 094 million.3 Correlating each component against revenue gives 0,25 for volume and 0,92 for margin: how much the clients traded tells you almost nothing about what XTB earned, and how much the house made on each trade tells you nearly everything.4
Two quarters make the point without any statistics. The fourth quarter of 2025 was the busiest in the series, 2,54 million lots, and produced 609 million złoty.5 The second quarter of 2026 was the quietest of that year, 1,83 million lots, and produced 993 million.6
Over a run of years the picture inverts, because the client base grows: annual volume and annual revenue correlate at 0,96 from 2019 to 2025.7 That is the genuine compounding story. Inside any twelve months it is the wrong lens entirely.
Profitability per lot was 215 złoty for 2025 as a whole.8 The quarterly range in the eighteen months around it was 152 to 484, and that spread is the company.
Profitability per lot reached 484 złoty in the second quarter of 2026, the highest in the published series and more than double the 2025 average of 215. That is the facet performing at its best; it is also the reason the next four quarters are unforecastable.
Across the eight quarters from Q3 2024 to Q2 2026, the correlation between contracts traded and operating income was 0,25 and between profitability per lot and operating income 0,92. Volume moved by a factor of 1,6 and margin per lot by 3,2, from 152 złoty to 484. Annually the picture inverts - volume and revenue correlate at 0,96 from 2019 to 2025 - because the client base is growing. Inside any twelve months, the margin decides.
