◆ What the Market Isn't Pricing In
Intel (INTC) — the variant view
Intel's chip business earns about $13 billion a year and its factories lose about $10 billion, and the $670 billion price assumes the factories become a business of their own.
📈 INTC valuation, revenue & earnings — P/E, P/S, revenue, EPS →Look at Intel's segment note and two businesses appear. Intel Products, the client and data center groups, earned $12,739 million of operating income in 2025 on $49,147 million of revenue1, a margin of about 25.9%2. Intel Foundry lost $10,318 million on $17,826 million of revenue, of which $307 million came from outside customers3. After corporate costs of $5,518 million, the company lost $2,214 million4.
The market value of $669.37 billion5 does not price that combination. It prices a future in which the foundry becomes a real contract manufacturer, customers arrive for 14A, and the product business keeps the pricing it enjoyed in the 2026 shortage. Forward earnings of about 76 times6 require all three.
What is not priced in is how much of 2026's improvement is the shortage. Server selling prices rose 48%7; Data Center and AI earned 40 percent of revenue8, against about 5.9% in 20239. Intel says demand exceeded supply10. When supply catches up, prices will fall and AMD, which gained share throughout the shortage11, will still be there.
Also not priced in is who shares the upside. The US government holds 433.3 million shares12, Nvidia 215 million13, and partners take a share of the factories' profits, guided at about $1.1 billion a year in 2027 and 202814. The share count rose from 4,090 million diluted in 2021 to 4,530 million in 20251516.
The one number that would justify the price is external foundry revenue from customers Intel does not own. It was $293 million in the second quarter of 202617; a run rate of several billion a year by 2028 would make the foundry a business, and anything much less leaves it a cost the product business must carry.
