Intel (INTC) — moat facet

Intel's other businesses, mainly Mobileye, are less a part of the moat than a stock of assets to sell, and Intel has been selling them.

All Other is the collection of businesses outside Intel's main segments, and on the segment chart it is shown as external revenue: consolidated revenue less the client, data center and external foundry lines1. On that basis it was about $5,396 million in 2023, $3,471 million in 2024 and $3,399 million in 20252. The segment reported revenue of $5,463 million, $3,601 million and $3,563 million3.

Shrinking as pieces are sold.

What is inside is Mobileye, the driver-assistance company Intel controls; IMS Nanofabrication, a maker of lithography equipment, 68% owned; start-up businesses; and Altera, the programmable-chip maker, until 11 September 20254. Non-controlling interests in Mobileye were 23% at 27 June 20265, so Intel owns about 77%6.

The history is shrinkage by sale. Intel sold 51% of Altera to Silver Lake for $4.8 billion of cash, recognising a $5.6 billion gain, and now accounts for its remaining 49% as an investment7. It sold 57.5 million Mobileye shares for net proceeds of $921 million in 20258. Each sale removed revenue from this line.

How it is paid varies by business: Mobileye sells driver-assistance chips and systems to carmakers, IMS sells equipment to chipmakers.

Profitability has been small. The segment earned $1,507 million in 2023, lost $57 million in 2024 and earned $264 million in 20259. In the second quarter of 2026 it earned $230 million on $701 million of revenue10. The value has been written down: Intel recorded a $3.9 billion goodwill impairment in the first quarter of 2026, substantially all related to Mobileye11.

The outlook is further simplification. These businesses are sources of cash for the factories more than parts of the moat, and Intel has been selling them when it needs money.

The segment also carries the investments Intel has kept. IMS Nanofabrication is 68% owned, with the rest held by outside investors12, and non-controlling interests in IMS were 32% at June 202613. Altera, now 49% owned, sits outside the segment as an equity investment14. Together with Mobileye these are the pieces of Intel that could still be sold.

This line matters mostly as a store of saleable assets. The measure of its value is what Intel can still raise from it; a further sale of Mobileye shares would confirm that the line exists to fund the rest.

Moat trajectory: Narrowing

Altera deconsolidated in 2025; Mobileye written down in 2026.
