The Revenue LinesNarrow moat
Intel (INTC) — moat facet
Nearly all of Intel's revenue comes from selling PC and server chips; its foundry, which lost $10.3 billion in 2025, had $307 million of outside sales.
Intel's revenue comes almost entirely from two product groups, and its segment note shows why that is only half the picture. In 2025 Client Computing sold $32,228 million and Data Center and AI $16,919 million1. Intel Foundry reported $17,826 million, but only $307 million of it came from outside customers2; the rest was Intel selling to itself and is eliminated in the total. All Other, mainly Mobileye, contributed the balance3. Total revenue was $52,853 million4.
The chart in this app shows the four lines as external revenue so they add up to reported revenue: the two product groups, the foundry's outside sales, and All Other calculated as the remainder5. On that basis client was 61% of 2025 revenue and the data center 32%6.
Profit is split very differently. The product groups earned $12,739 million of operating income in 2025, the foundry lost $10,318 million, and All Other earned $264 million7. Corporate costs of $5,518 million, including restructuring and share-based compensation, sit outside the segments8.
The lines are moving in opposite directions in 2026. Data Center and AI grew 59% in the second quarter; the client group grew about 13%910; the foundry's outside revenue rose mostly because Altera became a customer11; All Other shrank12.
Intel reorganised in 2025, folding its networking business into the two product groups and restating prior years13, so the chart begins in 2023.
The history behind the current lines is longer than the chart shows. On the structure Intel used until 2021, the client group sold $40,057 million in 2020 and the data center group $26,103 million14, and the company also owned a memory business and Altera, both since sold15. The two product groups on today's basis sold $49,147 million in 202516, so the core has shrunk by about a quarter from the old peak even before counting the businesses that left.
The revenue lines describe a product company. The number that would add a second kind of company to them is the foundry's external revenue, $293 million in the second quarter of 202617.
The data center line is growing fastest; the foundry's outside line remains small.
How much of Intel is a product company; a falling share with foundry external revenue rising would mean the second business is arriving.
