$86 Billion of Services Backlog, 9% Beyond 2040Wide moat

GE Vernova (GEV) — moat facet

GE Vernova has $86 billion of contracted services backlog, and nearly a tenth of it runs beyond fifteen years.

GE Vernova's services backlog is the plainest evidence of the lock-in. Services remaining performance obligations were $85,993 million at the end of 20251, 57.2% of the $150,238 million total2. Of that services backlog, 17% is expected within one year, 52% within five, 77% within ten and 91% within fifteen3. About 9% runs beyond fifteen years4.

Services RPO expected to convert, cumulative (%)17%Within 1 year52%Within 5 years77%Within 10 years91%Within 15 yearsGE Vernova Form 10-K FY2025, remaining performance obligations note
Almost half of the services backlog lands after 2030.

The figure counts only what cannot be walked away from. RPO is measured "excluding any purchase order that provides the customer with the ability to cancel or terminate without incurring a substantive penalty"5. These are contracted obligations, not hopes.

Services backlog grew more slowly than equipment backlog in 2025: 13.2% against 49.2%6. That is what a turbine boom looks like: the equipment orders arrive first, and the service contracts follow the machines into operation. By June 2026 services RPO was $88,463 million7.

The services backlog is about five times the company's 2025 services revenue8, which is a long runway for a business whose customers are utilities and grid operators.

The June 2026 figures show the conversion profile holding. Of services RPO then, 16% was expected within one year, 54% within five, 79% within ten and 92% within fifteen9. The long tail shortened slightly as the older contracts moved closer to delivery, but the shape, a decade and more of contracted work, did not change.

The backlog's growth rate is the thing to watch. Services RPO grew 13.2% in 2025; if it stalls while equipment RPO keeps rising, the boom will be selling machines to owners who choose not to sign GE Vernova's service contracts.

Moat trajectory: Widening

Services RPO $85,993M (2025) to $88,463M (June 2026).

Services remaining performance obligations, latest quarter
$88,463M (30 June 2026)

Contracted service revenue; a stall while equipment backlog rises would mean new turbines are not being signed to service.
