CrowdStrike (CRWD) — threat to the moat
CrowdStrike trades at about 48 times sales, twice its own multiple of eight months ago, and above the average analyst target.
CrowdStrike's share price assumes that everything on the other pages goes right. At $252.13 on 25 September 2026 the company was worth $258.72 billion1, about 47.9 times trailing sales and 38.9 times the market's forward sales estimate2. On GAAP earnings the trailing multiple is 5,749.93 and the forward multiple 178.753; on free cash flow it is about 160.8 times4.
The multiple has doubled in eight months. At the end of fiscal 2026, on 31 January 2026, the market value was $111,278 million and the price-to-sales ratio 23.135. The value has since risen about 2.3 times6, while trailing revenue grew from $4.81 billion to $5.40 billion7. The shares rose 111.73% in 52 weeks8, from a low of $85.68 to a high of $263.879.
Even by its own standards this is high. At each of the last five fiscal year-ends the price-to-sales ratio was 26.57, 10.50, 22.09, 24.80 and 23.1310. The current figure is roughly double the range CrowdStrike traded in through the outage and its recovery.
The analysts who follow the company are cautious about the price if not the business. Their average target is $235.67, about 6.5% below the share price1112. The re-rating came with the AI narrative and the acceleration in net new ARR, both real, but both still early.
The run has been long as well as steep. At the end of calendar 2019, six months after the listing, CrowdStrike was worth $10.25 billion13; at 31 January 2023, after the 2022 sell-off, it was worth $23,543 million14, about 10.5 times sales.
At this price the business must keep accelerating. The ratio to watch is price to trailing sales, about 47.9 times today; a return to the 22 to 25 times of fiscal 2024 to 2026, with nothing else changing, would cut the share price roughly in half.
The expectations in the price; a return to the 22-25 times of FY2024-26 would roughly halve the shares with no change in the business.
