◆ What the Market Isn't Pricing In
Netflix (NFLX) — the variant view
Netflix's shares fell 41% in a year its profits rose a quarter, because the market is pricing flat viewing hours rather than rising cash.
📈 NFLX valuation, revenue & earnings — P/E, P/S, revenue, EPS →The market has marked Netflix down while its profits went up. The shares were $71.15 on 25 September 2026, a market value of $296.24 billion1, down about 41% in a year2. Over roughly the same period net income rose 26% in 2025, to $10,981 million34, and the operating margin is guided to 31.5% for 20265.
The price-to-earnings ratio fell accordingly: from about 36 times at the end of 2025 to about 22 times trailing earnings now67, and 20.55 times forward8. The trailing figure is flattered by the $2.8 billion termination fee in the first quarter9.
The market's worry is engagement. View hours grew about 2% in the first half10, YouTube leads American television time11, and analysts have downgraded the shares on that point12.
What that view may underweight is cash. Netflix expects about $12.5 billion of free cash flow in 202613, a free cash flow yield of about 3.8%14, and it has $27.1 billion of buyback authorization left15, about 9% of its market value16. A company growing revenue 13% while shrinking its share count is not priced like one.
Analysts have not given up on the shares. Fifty-one of them follow the company with a consensus rating of buy and an average target of $92.9317, well above the $71.15 close. The dissenters are specific: HSBC cut its target to $76 from $96 on YouTube taking share of viewing18. The distance between the average target and the price, about 30%, is itself a measure of how much the engagement worry is weighing on a business whose earnings keep rising.
The fall has been steep even by the stock's own standards. The shares traded between $65.08 and $124.86 over the past year19, and the market value was $397.29 billion at the end of 202520. At the close of 25 September 2026 the enterprise value was $303.77 billion21, barely above the market value, because net debt is small.
The reconciling number is revenue growth. If it holds near the guided 12% at constant currency through 2027, today's multiple is too low; if it falls below 10%, the market's caution will have been right.
