UCAN: $15.86 to $17.20 a MonthWide moat

Netflix (NFLX) — moat facet

Netflix raised what an American member pays from $15.86 to $17.20 a month in two years and added 15 million UCAN members while doing it.

Netflix's pricing power shows most clearly in its home market. Average monthly revenue per paying membership in the United States and Canada rose from $15.86 in 2022 to $16.28 in 2023 and $17.20 in 20241, 8.4% in two years2, while UCAN memberships grew from 74.3 million to 89.6 million3.

Up 8.4% in two years.

Both rose together, which is the point. Price increases in a mature market usually cost members; here they did not, because paid sharing and the cheaper ads plan were added at the same time. Plans ranged from the equivalent of $1 to $37 a month at the end of 20254.

The next increase is already in the numbers. Netflix said "Q2 revenue growth of 10% reflects only a partial quarter impact from our recent price change"5 in UCAN.

The American member is the most profitable customer Netflix has, paying about $17.20 against a global average of $11.70 in 20246.

The company also sells an extra member slot for account sharers, at $2 to $9 a month7. That turns a former free rider into a small additional fee on the host's bill, raising revenue per account without a headline price rise.

This is the market where pricing power will be tested hardest. UCAN revenue grew 10% in the second quarter of 20268; if the full effect of the price change still leaves growth below 10%, the increase will have cost more members than it gained in price.

Moat trajectory: Holding steady

Price rising; UCAN growth slowed to 10% in Q2 2026.
