⚠ Asia-Pacific Revenue per Member Fell From $8.50 to $7.29Moderate threat
Netflix (NFLX) — threat to the moat
Netflix's fastest-growing members pay the least: Asia-Pacific revenue per member fell from $8.50 to $7.29 as memberships rose half again.
The ladder has a bottom, and that is where Netflix is growing. Asia-Pacific revenue per paying membership fell from $8.50 in 2022 to $7.64 in 2023 and $7.29 in 20241, while memberships in the region rose from 38.0 million to 57.5 million2.
Latin America moved the same way in dollars, from $8.48 to $8.243, although constant-currency revenue per member rose 21% in 2024 on Argentine price increases4. In both regions the new member pays less than half of what an American pays.
This is not a failure; it is the shape of global growth. But every membership added at $7 dilutes the average, and the regions growing fastest are the least profitable per member.
The pattern is the reverse of North America's, where revenue per member rose from $15.86 to $17.20 over the same years5. The gap between the two regions widened from about $7.36 to $9.91 a month6, which means each new Asian member adds a smaller share of the average American's value than before.
The number to follow is the gap between regional revenue growth and membership growth, now visible only in revenue. APAC revenue grew 21% in 20257; if that growth comes mostly from cheaper plans, the average revenue per member will keep falling.
