Synektik (SNT) — threat to the moat
Synektik's tracer demand grows at the pace of the NFZ's PET budget.
Synektik cannot sell a tracer to a scanner that does not exist. The number of PET-CT devices in Poland, 371, depends on hospital and diagnostic-chain investment, and the number of scans on the NFZ's budget: 353,7 million złoty in 20242.
The company lists the level of public health funding among the main factors affecting its results3. For the radiopharmaceutical segment that is direct: the NFZ pays for the scan, and the scan uses the tracer.
Growth has been steady but not fast. Studies rose from 89,3 thousand in 2023 to 96,1 thousand in 20244, about 8%5.
Poland's scanner count has moved slowly. In 2011 it had 0,42 PET scanners per million people6; it took about twelve years to reach one. At about 96,1 thousand NFZ-funded studies in 20247, each of the 37 scanners averages roughly 2 600 funded scans a year8, so volume can also grow on the existing machines.
A year of decline in NFZ-funded PET studies outside a pandemic would show the budget constraint binding.
