A Tender Machine With a Light Balance SheetNarrow moat
Synektik (SNT) — moat facet
Synektik wins public tenders with 221 people and hands almost all the profit back; the skill is real and can be hired away.
The last part of the moat is the organisation that turns exclusive products into won tenders. Synektik has more than 800 customers in the equipment segment and none above 10% of its sales1. Public procurement produced 85,5% of group revenue in the year to September 20252. Winning that many tenders takes a particular skill: knowing the specifications, the procedures and the hospitals, and having a catalogue wide enough to bid on them. Synektik sells for Intuitive, Carl Zeiss, Eckert & Ziegler, HistoSonics, Hologic, Insightec, ZAP Surgical and Medical Microinstruments3, alongside its own software.
It does this with few people. The group averaged 221 employees in the year to September 20254, about 3,1 million złoty of revenue each5. The equipment segment's EBITDA margin rose from 17,5% in the year to September 2019 to 29,6% in 20256. Order intake was a record 391,0 million złoty in that year7 and 423,0 million złoty in the first nine months of the current one, 72% more than a year earlier8.
It also needs little capital. Capital spending was 17,4 million złoty in the year to September 20259, and the company paid a dividend of 10,75 złoty a share in February 2026, about 99,7% of the parent's standalone profit10. The company's own return on equity was 46%11.
The quarterly figures show the machine accelerating. Orders won in the half-year to March 2026 were 311,0 million złoty against 147,0 million złoty a year earlier12, and the equipment segment's EBITDA margin in that half was 29,3%, up 2,0 points, which the company attributed to operating leverage and sales mix13. In the nine months to June the margin was 28,5% on revenue up 56%14.
These are the habits of a well-run distributor rather than a structural moat: another company could hire the people. What it could not hire is the product list. The number that tests the organisation is order intake, which has grown with the robots; a year of falling orders would show how much of the machine is the machine and how much is Intuitive.
