Synektik (SNT) — moat facet

Synektik's most dangerous competitor is the company that supplies it, and the others are mostly fighting over growth.

Synektik has no competitor that does what it does, and four that could take parts of it. Each is a different kind of relationship, and only one of them is a company selling against it in the ordinary way.

Polish robotic-surgery market (zł m)83,12019123,12020235,12021310,42022624,12023 est.2 123,72028 fcstUpper Finance and Polish Federation of Hospitals, via Synektik annual report; 2023 estimate, 2028 forecast
A market forecast to more than triple in five years.

The most important is its own supplier. Intuitive can sell and service the da Vinci itself, and in March 2026 it did exactly that in Italy, Spain and Portugal, paying about $533,1 million for the distributors there1. Synektik's contract runs to 31 December 20312. A rival that is also your supplier does not need to win a tender against you; it needs only to decline to renew.

The second kind is rival robot makers. CMR Surgical's Versius arrived in Poland in 20213 and, with leasing and pay-per-procedure financing, placed five robots in the first half of 2022 while two new sites started with the da Vinci4. Medtronic's Hugo followed in December 2024 and reached four hospitals by October 20255. They compete with Intuitive's product and so with Synektik's catalogue, and Synektik cannot sell them.

The third is in radiopharmaceuticals, where Synektik makes rather than resells. Poland has nine cyclotrons; four were bought by public bodies and two more belong to other private producers6. Here the competition is local and ordinary: price, reliability and delivery range.

The fourth is the process. 85,5% of Synektik's revenue came from public tenders in the year to September 20257, and a tender's job is to make suppliers compete on price. For everything except the da Vinci, the rival is whichever distributor of another manufacturer bids lower.

The market is growing fast enough that none of these has yet cost Synektik much. An industry report cited by the company estimates the Polish robotic-surgery market at 624,1 million złoty in 2023, up 101%, and forecasts more than 2,1 billion złoty by 20288. In a market expanding at that pace, competitors mostly take growth rather than customers.

Rival robots also benefit from the same public money as Synektik. The Hugo at the National Institute of Oncology in Kraków, installed in August 2025, cost more than 17 million złoty and was financed from European Union funds, and the one in Łomża, more than 10 million złoty, from the National Recovery Plan9; Synektik's own oncology equipment tenders in the half-year to March 2026 were financed from the same source10. The competition is often over which manufacturer a hospital spends a government grant on.

The verdict is narrow. Against rival robots and other distributors the da Vinci and its installed base hold; against the supplier, Synektik's position lasts exactly as long as its contract. Follow the forecast market itself: if the Polish market reaches the forecast and the da Vinci's share of it slips, the rivals are taking the growth.

Moat trajectory: Holding steady

Rival robots are few; the supplier took other territories direct.
