⚠ A Guidance Built on No SlowdownModerate threat

Procter & Gamble (PG) — threat to the moat

P&G's fiscal 2027 guidance of 1% to 3% organic growth assumes no market slowdown, no currency weakness and no commodity spike.

P&G's fiscal 2027 guidance comes with a list of what it leaves out: significant market deceleration, currency weakness, commodity spikes, geopolitical disruptions and significant tariff changes1. Inside those assumptions it expects organic sales growth of 1% to 3% and core EPS growth of 0% to 3%2.

A narrow range with the risks excluded.

That leaves little margin. The first quarter is already guided to earnings per share down 5% or more3, and the guidance includes a 30 to 50 basis point headwind from brands and product forms P&G is discontinuing4.

A market slowdown would hit a company in P&G's position in a particular way. Its categories are staples, so shoppers keep buying; but they trade down the price tiers, which is exactly what cost the margin 120 basis points of mix in fiscal 20265.

Last year's range shows how the outcome can land. For fiscal 2026 P&G guided organic growth of flat to 4%6 and delivered 1%7, in the lower half. If fiscal 2027 lands in the lower half of its 1% to 3% range, organic growth will again be 1% or 2%.

The warning sign is organic growth below 1% in the first half of fiscal 2027. That would put P&G at the bottom of its own range before any of the excluded risks had been counted.
