An Effective Tax Rate of Eight PercentThin moat

Text (TXT) — moat facet

Poland taxes qualifying software income at 5%, and it is worth more to Text than most of its cost savings.

Text paid 10,1 million złoty of tax on 126,7 million złoty of pre-tax profit in the year to March 2026 — an effective rate of about 8%1.

Effective tax rate on pre-tax profit6,89%FY20247,49%FY20257,95%FY202619%Polish statutoryPoland's IP Box taxes qualifying intellectual property income at 5%
Worth roughly 14m zł a year against the ordinary rate - and set by parliament, not by Text.

The reason is a Polish incentive. The current portion of income tax is determined using a rate of 19% on income from other sources and a rate of 5% on income from qualifying intellectual property rights, under the regime known as IP Box; the deferred portion was calculated at an expected rate of 6,87%, against 7,43% the year before2.

For a company earning 35,4% net margins3 this is not a rounding item. A statutory 19% rate applied to the same pre-tax profit would have cut net income by roughly 14 million złoty, which is more than the entire cost of employee benefits4 and about an eighth of the dividend5.

It is also, unlike almost everything else on these pages, entirely outside Text's control. The rate is a policy choice of the Polish state, available because the company creates qualifying intellectual property in Poland — which is one of the reasons a business earning 95% of its revenue through a United States subsidiary6 keeps its 271 people in Wroclaw7.

The regime has been stable and nothing suggests a change. Even so, a Polish company one voivodeship away has just watched its own sector's tax rate rise from 19% to 30% by statute with four weeks' notice, which is a reminder of what a legislated benefit is worth.

The effective rate is its own warning light, and it has drifted from 6,89% two years ago to 7,95% now8.

Moat trajectory: Narrowing

The effective rate has drifted from 6,89% two years ago to 7,95% now, with no legislative change behind it. The direction is mildly against Text and entirely outside its control.

7,95% - 10,1m zł on 126,7m zł of pre-tax profit

Poland's IP Box regime taxes qualifying intellectual property income at 5% against the standard 19%, and the deferred portion was computed at an expected 6,87%. At a 35,4% net margin this is not a rounding item: the ordinary rate would cut net income by roughly 14m zł, more than the entire employee benefit cost. It is also entirely outside Text's control, which is why the rate itself is the thing to watch - it has drifted from 6,89% two years ago.
