⚠ A Default Can Be Reset by an InterfaceModerate threat
Allegro (ALE) — threat to the moat
Reflexes attach to whatever is easiest, and Allegro's own filing names AI-powered search among the things that could change what that is.
Allegro's most valuable asset is a reflex, and reflexes attach to whatever is easiest at the time rather than to a company.
The reflex has been reset before within living memory. Shoppers moved from the desktop browser to the mobile app, and each shift redistributed who got opened first. Allegro's own filing lists among its competitive risks "new and enhanced technologies, including AI-powered solutions, search, web and infrastructure computing services"1 — a company naming the possibility that the next interface does not have a home screen for it to sit on.
The specific danger is not that a rival builds a better marketplace. It is that a buyer stops choosing a marketplace at all and asks an assistant for a product, at which point the default belongs to whoever answers.
Nothing in the numbers shows it: GMV per active buyer rose 10,4%2, which is a deepening habit rather than a fraying one.
The measure is the share of transactions that begin inside Allegro's own app rather than arriving from elsewhere. Allegro does not disclose it, and it is the number that would show a default eroding while every reported figure still looked healthy.
