CoreWeave (CRWV) — threat to the moat

When the same dollar appears in several places, every income statement looks better than the system.

The aligned-incentives web has a darker reading that an investor must weigh seriously: much of the capital circulating through the AI infrastructure economy is, in part, the same money appearing in several places, and circular flows flatter every link in ways that can reverse together. Nvidia invests in CoreWeave; CoreWeave spends to buy Nvidia's chips; CoreWeave signs contracts with AI labs like OpenAI, which Nvidia1 and others are also funding; and the revenue, backlog, and valuations this circulation produces reinforce confidence up and down the chain. When a supplier's investment funds its customer's purchases of the supplier's product, some of the demand is not fully independent, and the resulting numbers — revenue booked, backlog signed, valuations struck — can overstate the true, external demand underneath.

This is not necessarily improper, and it can reflect genuine mutual conviction in a real boom. But it makes the independent strength of any single link, including CoreWeave, harder to assess, and it creates systemic fragility: the same interconnection that amplifies growth on the way up would amplify distress on the way down, as falling demand or confidence hit the mutually-exposed parties simultaneously. A downturn in AI investment would not strike CoreWeave in isolation; it would strike Nvidia, the AI labs, and the financing all at once, and the circular flows that flattered the boom would deflate together. CoreWeave's embedding in this web has brought it real capital and commitments, and the alignment is genuine while the boom lasts. But an investor should hold the circular-financing risk clearly: it means CoreWeave's reported strength is entangled with, and partly dependent on, a web of related-party flows whose resilience is untested — a structure that has never faced a serious downturn, and whose unwinding would be correlated and severe across every party it connects.
